Best Mattress UK 2026: The 7 Beds UK Testers and Owners Rate

Most US-famous brands (Saatva, DreamCloud, Puffy, Bear) don’t sell in the UK. These are the beds UK testers rate and UK owners keep.

The short verdict

The best mattress in the UK for most people is the Simba Hybrid Pro. It is the bed UK reviewers keep coming back to: Expert Reviews called it “the most comfortable mattress we’ve ever tested” and gave it a Best Buy, TechRadar praised its superb support, and Simba holds 4.3 stars from more than 62,000 Trustpilot reviews — by far the biggest owner sample of any UK mattress brand we looked at. It is medium-firm — Simba rates it 6.5/10 (as reported by T3), though TechRadar’s panel put it nearer 8/10 — it has a 200-night trial and a 10-year guarantee, and it suits couples and back sleepers especially well.

It is not the right bed for everyone, though, and it is expensive at full price (£1,299 for a double and £1,399 for a king on simbasleep.com in October 2026). If you sleep hot or you have lower-back pain and like a firm surface, the Panda Hybrid Bamboo is our pick — it sleeps cool, Expert Reviews measured the least sinkage they had seen, and Panda has the best Trustpilot score in our UK set at 4.7. If you want a hybrid for the least money, the OTTY Original Hybrid is the value play: otty.com listed it “from £499.99” on 27 October 2026 (the page doesn’t say which size), Expert Reviews’ 2024 full prices were £950 for a double and £1,200 for a king, and Expert Reviews notes you’ll rarely need to pay full price for a bed-in-a-box. And if you just want a cheap, traditional pocket sprung mattress made in Britain, the Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 Pocket costs £379 for a single and £499 for a double direct.

A word on how we built this list. We don’t run a mattress lab and we haven’t slept on these beds ourselves. We read what the UK’s independent testers published — Expert Reviews, TechRadar, T3, Tom’s Guide UK, Mumsnet and, where the verdict is public, Which? — and set it against what UK owners report on Trustpilot. Every claim on this page links to its source. Our general methodology is on the how we rate page; the difference here is that RTINGS doesn’t test UK-only mattresses, so we can’t show you the same 0–10 sub-scores we use in our US best-mattress ranking. Instead we lean harder on the agreement between testers and on owner service records.

The UK picks at a glance

Seven mattresses, ranked. The award line tells you what each one is best at; the stars are the brand’s Trustpilot score. Click any tile to jump to the full review.

Notice the range of Trustpilot scores: from Panda’s 4.7 down to Emma’s 3.3. That spread is mostly about service, not comfort. Emma sells enormous numbers of mattresses across Europe, and its negative reviews are dominated by delivery and customer-service complaints. We still recommend the Emma Original Lite (the bed formerly sold as the Hybrid Original) for a specific buyer — the average-weight side sleeper on a mid budget — but we’d want you to go in knowing the service record is the weakest of the hybrid brands here.

Every other pick here runs medium-firm to firm.

The most common mistake UK buyers make is going too firm. The British market has a long tradition of “orthopaedic” beds, and many people still assume firmer means better for the back. The clinical evidence says otherwise: in the best-known randomised trial, Kovacs and colleagues found that people with chronic low-back pain did better on a medium-firm mattress than a firm one. Four of our seven picks are medium-firm for exactly that reason, and the two genuinely firm options — Panda and Hypnos — are for people who already know they like a firm bed, or who are heavier and need the extra push-back.

The second most common mistake is overweighting the trial length. A 365-night trial sounds generous, and Nectar’s is genuinely useful, but it doesn’t make a mattress more comfortable. A bed that suits you on night thirty will almost certainly suit you on night three hundred. Use the trial as insurance, not as a reason to buy a mattress that doesn’t match your sleeping position.

Three things stand out. First, the trials vary enormously: 365 nights at Nectar, 200 at Simba and Emma, 100 at Panda and OTTY, 60 nights (exchange only) at Silentnight, and whatever the retailer offers for Hypnos. Second, warranties are mostly ten years, with Nectar’s “forever” warranty and Silentnight’s lifetime guarantee (once registered, when you buy direct) at the generous end, and some Hypnos models carrying only five years at the other. Third, the hybrids dominate. Five of the seven picks combine springs with foam or natural fillings; only Nectar is all-foam. That mirrors what UK testers have been recommending for several years — hybrids sleep cooler than all-foam beds, feel more like the sprung mattresses most Brits grew up on, and generally have stronger edges.

#1 · Best overall (UK)

Simba Hybrid Pro

Hybrid · 28cm

4.3★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 62,380 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

6.5/10 · Medium-firm — Medium-firm (Simba’s own 6.5/10, per T3; TechRadar’s panel ~8/10)

The Simba Hybrid Pro is the closest thing the UK has to a consensus pick. It is a 28cm hybrid — comfort layers over pocket springs — with a wool layer that testers credit with helping it regulate temperature. Expert Reviews named it a Best Buy and their favourite hybrid. TechRadar called its support superb and singled out average-to-heavier back and stomach sleepers as the people who will love it most.

The caveat is in the same reviews: TechRadar found it too firm for light side sleepers, and owners and testers mention edges that could be stronger. It is also heavy, and some people notice a smell for the first few days. At £1,299 for a double at list price (Simba’s site in October 2026: £899 single, £1,399 king, £1,499 super king — and the king was labelled an overstock or clearance price, so a revised model may follow), it is a premium bed — but Simba discounts often, and the 200-night trial with a 10-year guarantee lowers the risk. If you sleep on your back or front, share the bed, and weigh anything from average upwards, this is the safest buy in the country. Our full Simba mattress review compares it with the cheaper Simba Hybrid and the Luxe and Ultra.

What owners & testers like

  • Excellent support and bounce
  • Wool layer helps cooling
  • B Corp, 200-night trial

Watch out for

  • Expensive at RRP
  • Edges could be stronger
  • Heavy; smell lingers a few days

Best for

👍 Couples, back & stomach sleepers, average–heavier builds

Not best for

✋ Lightweight side sleepers, tight budgets

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Expert Reviews

“The most comfortable mattress we’ve ever tested” — Best Buy, favourite hybrid.

  • TechRadar

Superb support; best for average/heavier back and stomach sleepers, too firm for light side sleepers.

In owners’ words

Positive
“Outstanding service from start to finish and an outstanding product.”

#2 · Best for hot sleepers & back pain

Panda Hybrid Bamboo

Hybrid

4.7★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 7,770 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

7.2/10 · Firm — Firm-feeling medium-firm (~7–7.5/10)

Panda London’s Hybrid Bamboo is the firmest-feeling bed in the top half of our list, and that is the point. Expert Reviews gave it a Best Buy and reported the least sinkage they had measured, which is exactly what you want if your lower back aches on softer mattresses or you sleep on your front. Tom’s Guide singled out its cooling as outstanding for hot sleepers.

It is also the best-reviewed brand on Trustpilot in our UK set: 4.7 stars from more than 7,700 reviews. The downsides are real but narrow. It is firmer than its “medium-firm” label suggests, the removable cover is fiddly, and the 100-night trial is half Simba’s. Lightweight side sleepers who want to sink in should look elsewhere. Everyone who runs hot, sleeps on their back or front, or has been told to look for a firm mattress for back pain should put this near the top of their shortlist.

What owners & testers like

  • Excellent cooling
  • Solid edge support
  • Best Trustpilot score in our UK set (4.7)

Watch out for

  • Firmer than its label
  • Fiddly removable cover
  • 100-night trial only

Best for

👍 Hot sleepers, back & stomach sleepers, back pain

Not best for

✋ Light side sleepers who want plush

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Expert Reviews

Best Buy — firm, supportive, stays cool; least sinkage they’ve measured.

  • Tom’s Guide

    Outstanding cooling for hot sleepers.

In owners’ words

Positive
“Fast delivery and great products”

#3 · Best value hybrid (UK)

OTTY Original Hybrid

Hybrid · 25cm

4.0★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 11,296 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

7/10 · Firm — Medium-firm (7/10 on OTTY’s own scale and Tom’s Guide’s)

OTTY is the brand to look at when the Simba feels like too much money. The Original Hybrid is a 25cm pocket-sprung hybrid that Tom’s Guide rated 7/10 for firmness — a proper medium-firm — and Expert Reviews praised for excellent support, comfort and value. Mumsnet’s 2026 head-to-head with the Simba found good cooling and motion isolation for couples.

The weak point is the perimeter. Expert Reviews felt corner support could be better, and the lack of handles makes it awkward to rotate. Expert Reviews listed the full price as £950 for a double and £1,200 for a king in 2024, but says “prices are regularly cut” on beds like this — so never pay full price. On 27 October 2026 otty.com listed the Original Hybrid “from £499.99” without naming the size, with up to 2,000 pocket springs, a 100-night money-back trial (free pickup, full refund), a 10-year guarantee and old-mattress removal for a small fee. OTTY’s 4.0 Trustpilot score from about 11,000 reviews sits comfortably in the “good” band. Heavier sleepers should know OTTY also sells an Extra Firm Hybrid (9/10, flippable, aimed at people over 15 stone) from £524.99. If you want hybrid support without a hybrid price and you don’t sit on the edge of the bed much, this is the value pick.

What owners & testers like

  • Strong value on sale
  • Good temperature regulation
  • Up to 2,000 pocket springs (OTTY)
  • Old-mattress removal for a small fee

Watch out for

  • Weaker corners/edges
  • No handles
  • 100-night trial

Best for

👍 Value seekers, couples, warm sleepers

Not best for

✋ Plush-feel fans, edge sitters

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Expert Reviews

Excellent support and comfort, great value; corner support could be better.

  • Mumsnet (2026)

Good cooling and motion isolation for couples; may be too firm for soft-bed lovers.

In owners’ words

Positive
“The new Otty mattress is so comfortable, slept well from day one.”
— Trustpilot reviewer

#4 · Best for side sleepers on a mid budget

Emma Original Lite (formerly Hybrid Original)

Hybrid · 22cm, 3-zone springs

3.3★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 53,974 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

5.5/10 · Medium — Medium (brand)

Emma has renamed its range, so this needs a little untangling. The bed UK buyers knew as the Emma Hybrid Original is now sold as the Emma Original Lite, at £199 RRP for a single. It is the softest-feeling hybrid on this list (Emma calls it medium), with three-zone pocket springs designed to let shoulders and hips sink further than your waist, which makes it a natural fit for side sleepers of average weight. Which? retested it after Emma’s 2025 update and rates both the Lite and the new Original “cold” for temperature — so older warnings that it sleeps warm are out of date. The full Which? verdict sits behind its paywall.

If you can stretch, the relaunched 2026 Emma Original (£369 single, £529 double RRP) adds memory foam and five spring zones; Expert Reviews retested that model in October 2026 and called it a great all-rounder, though edge support is still weak. The bigger trade-off is service. Emma’s UK Trustpilot score is 3.3 from almost 54,000 reviews — the lowest of the established brands here. One reviewer called it “a literal life saver”; another felt like they were “sleeping on a concrete slab.” Our advice: buy it on a discount, keep your paperwork, and use the 200-night trial if it isn’t right. Be sceptical of “was” prices, too — the ASA upheld complaints about Emma’s savings claims in 2022, and in May 2026 Emma agreed a High Court consent order with the CMA over countdown timers and “high demand” claims. Our Emma mattress review compares the Lite, Original, Pro and Elite.

What owners & testers like

  • 200-night trial, 10-yr warranty
  • Cheapest Emma at £199 single RRP
  • Which? rates it cool-sleeping (“cold”)

Watch out for

  • Weak edges
  • Simpler build than the 2026 Original
  • Low Trustpilot (3.3) — delivery/service

Best for

👍 Average-weight side & back sleepers

Not best for

✋ Hot sleepers, heavier stomach sleepers

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Which?

Retested the Original Lite after Emma’s 2025 update; rates the Lite and the Original “cold” for temperature.

  • Expert Reviews (2026 Original)

Great all-rounder at £529 a double; edge support still lacking for sitting on.

In owners’ words

Positive
“this EMMA mattress has been a literal life saver”
— Trustpilot reviewer
Negative
“I felt like I was sleeping on a concrete slab.”

#5 · Longest trial (365 nights)

Nectar Memory Foam

Memory foam · ~25cm

3.5★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 15,037 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

6.5/10 · Medium-firm — Medium-firm (6.5/10, Tom’s Guide UK)

Nectar sells a separate range in the UK from the one we review in the US, so don’t assume our US Nectar review applies directly. The UK Nectar Memory Foam mattress is roughly 25cm of foam, and Tom’s Guide UK rated it 6.5/10 for firmness, calling it fantastic value for couples. T3 found it firm, cool and supportive — though possibly too firm for some.

Its two headline perks are hard to beat: a 365-night trial and a forever warranty. Its two weaknesses are equally clear. Light side sleepers often find memory foam this firm presses on the shoulder, and Nectar UK’s Trustpilot score of 3.5 from 15,000 reviews is dragged down by customer-service complaints. The £600 double RRP is also a fiction — it is usually 40–45% off. If motion isolation matters most (you share with a restless partner) and you want the longest possible safety net, it is a sound choice.

What owners & testers like

  • 365-night trial
  • Forever warranty
  • Strong motion isolation

Watch out for

  • Firm for lighter sleepers
  • Customer-service complaints
  • Permanent ‘sale’ pricing

Best for

👍 Couples, cautious buyers who want a long trial

Not best for

✋ Light side sleepers, memory-foam haters

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Tom’s Guide UK

Fantastic-value memory foam for couples; a little firm for light side sleepers.

  • T3

Firm, cool and supportive; may be too firm for some.

In owners’ words

Positive
“Felt a bit too firm for first couple of nights but am now very comfortable on it.”
— Trustpilot reviewer
Negative
“Absolutely awful customer service.”

#6 · Best budget (UK-made)

Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 Pocket

Pocket-sprung (1200) · 25cm

4.2★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 9,138 reviews
SoftMediumFirm

6.5/10 · Medium-firm — Medium/firm (brand)

Silentnight is the most familiar mattress name in British bedrooms. The Eco Comfort Pocket 1200 that topped budget lists for years — T3’s favourite Silentnight — is no longer sold on silentnight.co.uk; its direct replacement is the Comfort Breathe 1200 Pocket, a 25cm traditional pocket sprung mattress made in the UK. Which? lists it with a September 2025 release and rates it “Cold” for temperature, though its full scores are members-only.

It is the budget pick for a reason: £379 for a single and £499 for a double direct. You give up the flexible trial, though — 60 nights, exchange only, usable once between nights 28 and 60, and only when you buy direct. The guarantee is better than its reputation: lifetime once you register a direct purchase, although Which? and retailers still quote three to five years for shop-bought Silentnights. But if you want a single mattress for a child’s room, a small double for a guest room, or simply a no-fuss sprung bed at a fair price, this is the sensible choice. Silentnight’s 4.2 Trustpilot score from 9,138 reviews is reassuring. Our Silentnight mattress review covers the 1000, 1200 and 1400 and the retailer-only models.

What owners & testers like

  • Affordable, widely stocked
  • UK-made
  • Lifetime guarantee once registered (direct)

Watch out for

  • 60-night exchange-only trial
  • Retailer purchases: 3–5 yr guarantee
  • Soft edges

Best for

👍 Budget buyers wanting a traditional sprung feel

Not best for

✋ Anyone wanting a long or refundable trial

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Which?

Lab-tested (Sept 2025 release); rated “Cold” for temperature. Full scores for members.

  • T3

Picked the predecessor, the Eco Comfort Pocket 1200, as its favourite Silentnight; UK-made.

In owners’ words

Positive
“Good value for money and quick efficient service and delivery”

#7 · Best premium British-made

Hypnos Luxury Firm 2

Pocket-sprung, natural fillings · Furniture Village exclusive

4.2★★★★★★★★★★Trustpilot · 3,494 reviews

Firmness: Firm (Hypnos’s range name; no measured rating)

Hypnos is a British bed-maker holding a Royal Warrant, and the Luxury Firm 2 is a pocket sprung mattress with natural fillings — the opposite of the foam-heavy boxed beds above. It belongs to one of two Hypnos ranges that Furniture Village says are made in the UK just for its stores, with all-natural fillings and wool layers it calls “naturally breathable and cooling”. That is a retailer claim rather than a lab result — Which?’s earlier test listing has been withdrawn — but it fits the physics: natural fibres breathe better than dense foam. It is firm, which makes it a strong candidate if you are searching for the best firm mattress in the UK and want it built the old-fashioned way.

The catch is the buying experience. Hypnos sells through retailers, so the trial (if any) depends on where you buy — John Lewis listings carry a 60-night comfort trial, and trials at bed specialists are usually exchange-only — and the Luxury Firm 2 wasn’t priced online when we checked in October 2026 — ask Furniture Village for a written quote. For scale, its firm Bespoke Quartz was £999 for a double on sale. Guarantees vary too: some Hypnos models carry 10 years, others five. A few Trustpilot reviews mention frustrating warranty handling, though the brand’s 4.2 score from about 3,500 reviews is solid. Buy it if you want natural materials, a firm sprung feel and a mattress built to be turned and kept, and you’re comfortable trying it in a showroom first. Our Hypnos mattress review maps the range and each retailer’s trial.

What owners & testers like

  • Royal Warrant maker
  • Natural, breathable wool-rich fillings
  • 10-year guarantee via Furniture Village

Watch out for

  • Expensive; store-exclusive range
  • Trial depends on retailer, often exchange-only
  • Some models only 5-year guarantee

Best for

👍 Premium, natural-fibre, breathable sprung bed

Not best for

✋ Budget buyers; people wanting a home trial

What expert reviewers concluded

  • Furniture Village (exclusive retailer)

Lists Luxury Firm as one of two Hypnos ranges made in the UK just for Furniture Village, with all-natural fillings and a 10-year guarantee. Which?’s 2025 lab listing was withdrawn by Oct 2026.

In owners’ words

Positive
“Really pleased with our new mattress. Good quality.”

Trustpilot: which UK mattress brands owners trust

Comfort is personal, but service isn’t. When a mattress arrives late, arrives damaged, or needs to go back under the trial, the brand’s customer service decides whether that is a minor hassle or a month of emails. Trustpilot is the best public record of that experience in the UK, because almost every brand here has thousands of reviews on it.

4.0+ good3.0–3.9 mixedunder 3 — read the complaints first

Read the chart as three groups. Panda, Simba, Silentnight and Hypnos sit at 4.2 or above with large samples — you can buy from them with confidence. OTTY is just behind at 4.0. Nectar UK and Emma sit in the mixed band, at 3.5 and 3.3. That doesn’t mean their mattresses are bad (both are well reviewed by testers), but it does mean more owners report problems with delivery, refunds and customer service.

Keep two caveats in mind. Trustpilot scores are brand-level, so Simba’s 4.3 covers pillows and duvets as well as the Hybrid Pro. And Trustpilot skews towards people who had a strong experience in either direction — the quiet majority who simply sleep well rarely write a review. That is why we never rank on owner ratings alone, and why our scoring method caps their influence at 20% of the overall score for the US models we rate.

UK mattress sizes: single, small double, king & super king

UK mattress sizes are not the same as American ones, and that catches people out constantly — especially if you’ve been reading US reviews. A UK king is 150 × 200cm, which is barely larger than a US queen. A UK super king is 180 × 200cm, close to (but not the same as) a US king. US sheets, toppers and mattress protectors will not fit UK beds properly. Our UK mattress sizes guide draws every size to scale, from small single to emperor.

Source: Expert Reviews – UK bed sizes. Bar = area relative to the largest size.

A single mattress (90 × 190cm) is the standard for children and teenagers, and comfortably fits one adult of average height. The small single (75 × 190cm) is for cabin beds, bunk beds and tight box rooms — check your frame before ordering, because a standard single won’t fit. If you are shopping for a single mattress, the Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 is our pick: it is cheap, it is sprung (which children tend to bounce on, and sprung beds take that better than soft foam), and it is widely stocked.

A small double mattress (120 × 190cm) — sometimes called a three-quarter — is the most underrated size in the UK. It is roomy for one adult, fits rooms where a double won’t, and works as a guest bed. It is too narrow for two adults to sleep well for long: each person gets 60cm, the width of a cot. Most of the brands on this list sell a small double; OTTY and Silentnight are the best value in that size.

A double (135 × 190cm) is the classic British couple’s bed, but at 67.5cm per person it is tight. If your room allows it, a king (150 × 200cm) adds width and, crucially, 10cm of length — useful for anyone over about 5′10″. A super king mattress (180 × 200cm) is the size to buy if you share with a partner who moves a lot, or a child who arrives at 3am. It gives each sleeper 90cm, the width of a single. For super kings, motion isolation matters less because you are further apart, so a bouncier hybrid like the Simba or Panda works well. Bigger still is the emperor (200 × 200cm), the largest standard UK size — fewer brands make it, and its sheets are specialist items; the super king and emperor section of our size guide covers room and bedding needs.

For a full international comparison — UK, US, Australian and Canadian sizes side by side — see our mattress sizes guide.

Pocket sprung vs memory foam vs hybrid

A pocket sprung mattress is built around hundreds or thousands of individual springs, each sewn into its own fabric pocket so it moves independently. Compared with an older open-coil mattress, where the springs are wired together, pocket springs reduce how much one person’s movement travels across the bed, and they contour more closely to your body. The number you often see in a mattress name — 1000, 1200, 2000 — refers to the spring count. A higher count is not automatically better: spring gauge, the quality of the fillings on top, and how the mattress is zoned matter just as much.

A memory foam mattress uses layers of foam instead of springs. It moulds slowly to your shape, which is excellent for pressure relief and motion isolation — the reason the Nectar UK is our pick for couples who wake each other. The downsides are heat (dense foam holds it) and a slower, “stuck” feeling when you change position.

A hybrid combines a pocket-spring core with foam or natural comfort layers on top. In the UK, hybrids now dominate the online market because they balance the support and airflow of springs with the cushioning of foam. Five of our seven picks are hybrids. If you want the full breakdown, our memory foam vs hybrid guide goes through the trade-offs in detail.

Our blunt advice: most UK sleepers should buy a hybrid. Buy all-foam only if motion isolation is your top priority or you dislike any bounce. Buy a traditional pocket sprung mattress with natural fillings — Silentnight on a budget, Hypnos if you can spend more — if you want the feel of a classic British bed and you sleep hot.

Firm, medium or ‘orthopaedic’? Choosing for your back

“Orthopaedic mattress” is one of the most searched mattress terms in the UK, but it isn’t a regulated term. It usually just means firm. And firm is not what most research recommends for back pain. In Kovacs’ 2003 randomised trial, people with chronic non-specific low-back pain who slept on medium-firm mattresses reported less pain and disability than those on firm ones. A later systematic review by Radwan and colleagues concluded that medium-firm mattresses, and ones that were custom-inflated or self-adjusted, were best for sleep comfort, quality and spinal alignment.

That is why the Simba (6.5/10 by Simba’s own rating, though TechRadar’s panel felt nearer 8) and OTTY (7/10) sit in the sweet spot for most people searching for the best mattress for back pain in the UK. The Panda is firmer — about 7–7.5 — and suits heavier people and stomach sleepers, whose hips sink further and need more resistance. Lighter side sleepers should go softer: the Emma Original Lite at a medium feel is the best fit on this list. We go deeper into this in our best mattress for back pain guide and our side sleepers guide.

  • Side sleepers: medium (around 5–6/10). Shoulders and hips need to sink. Emma, or Simba if you are heavier.
  • Back sleepers: medium-firm (6–7/10). Simba, OTTY or Nectar UK.
  • Stomach sleepers: firm (7+/10). Panda or Hypnos, to stop your hips sagging.
  • Heavier sleepers: go a step firmer than your position suggests, and prefer springs over all-foam.
  • Hot sleepers: Panda, Hypnos, or a hybrid with a wool layer like the Simba. See our best cooling mattress guide.

If you already own a mattress that feels slightly too firm, a memory foam mattress topper can soften it without replacing the whole bed. It won’t fix a mattress that is sagging, though — a dip of a few centimetres means the support core has gone, and Sleep Foundation’s guidance is that most mattresses need replacing somewhere between six and eight years in.

Why there’s no Saatva, DreamCloud or Puffy in the UK

If you’ve been reading US mattress reviews, you will have seen the same names over and over: Saatva, DreamCloud, Puffy, Bear. None of them sell in the UK. Saatva delivers only within the contiguous United States; puffy.co.uk redirects to the US store; DreamCloud and Bear don’t ship here. Nectar is the exception, but its UK range is different from the US one, so US reviews of the Nectar Premier or Classic Hybrid don’t apply to what you can buy in Britain.

That matters because a lot of “best mattress UK” articles quietly recommend US products, or reuse US lab data for differently built UK models. We’ve kept this list strictly to beds you can order today with UK delivery, UK sizes and a UK returns process. If you are curious how the US beds compare, our Saatva review and US ranking are the place to start — but treat them as background reading, not a shopping list.

Where and when to buy a mattress in the UK

Never pay RRP. Simba, Emma, Nectar and OTTY all run discounts so frequently that the full price is closer to a reference figure than a real one. Nectar UK is usually 40–45% off; OTTY’s 2024 full prices of £950 for a double and £1,200 for a king are regularly cut (the Original Hybrid was “from £499.99” on otty.com in October 2026); Emma regularly runs sales, though regulators have challenged its reference prices. The biggest discounts tend to land around Black Friday, the January sales and bank-holiday weekends, but a good price is rarely more than a few weeks away.

Brand site or Amazon? Where we’ve added an Amazon.co.uk button, the mattress is listed there, and Amazon can be quicker or cheaper on a given day. Before you buy from Amazon, check who the seller is and whether the brand’s full trial still applies — trials are usually only guaranteed when you buy direct. For Hypnos and Silentnight, retailers such as Furniture Village and department stores like John Lewis are the main route, and the trial and delivery terms are the retailer’s, not the maker’s.

Use the trial properly. Give any new mattress three to four weeks before judging it; your body takes time to adjust, and foam softens slightly. One Nectar UK owner on Trustpilot wrote that it “felt a bit too firm for first couple of nights” before becoming very comfortable. Keep the receipt, note the trial end date, and check whether the brand requires a minimum number of nights before a return.

Check delivery and disposal. Boxed mattresses arrive rolled and are easy to carry upstairs; traditional sprung beds like Hypnos arrive flat and need room to turn on the stairs. Old-mattress collection is often an add-on — ask before you order. And if you are not in the UK, see our Australian guide or Canadian guide.

Best mattress UK: FAQ

What is the best mattress in the UK in 2026?

The Simba Hybrid Pro is the most-awarded all-rounder (Expert Reviews Best Buy, 4.3★ from 62k Trustpilot reviews). Hot sleepers and back-pain sufferers should look at the firmer Panda Hybrid Bamboo; value hunters at the OTTY Original Hybrid.

Can I buy Saatva, DreamCloud or Puffy in the UK?

No. None of them sell in the UK as of October 2026 — puffy.co.uk redirects to the US store. Nectar sells a separate UK range with a 365-night trial.

What size is a UK double vs king?

A UK double is 135 × 190 cm, a king 150 × 200 cm and a super king 180 × 200 cm and an emperor 200 × 200 cm. UK sizes differ from US sizes, so US sheets won’t fit.

What is the best mattress for back pain in the UK?

For most people, a medium-firm hybrid such as the Simba Hybrid Pro (6.5/10 by Simba’s own rating) or OTTY Original Hybrid (7/10). Research, including the Kovacs trial in The Lancet, favours medium-firm over firm for chronic low-back pain. Heavier people and stomach sleepers may prefer the firmer Panda Hybrid Bamboo.

Is a pocket sprung mattress better than memory foam?

For most UK sleepers, yes — pocket sprung and hybrid mattresses sleep cooler and feel more supportive when you move. Memory foam is better at isolating a partner’s movement and relieving pressure. A hybrid like the Simba gives you some of both.

What is the best budget mattress in the UK?

The Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 Pocket (£379 single, £499 double direct) is our budget pick: UK-made, pocket sprung and rated cool-sleeping by Which?. It replaced the Eco Comfort Pocket 1200 on Silentnight’s own site. The OTTY Original Hybrid (from £499.99 on otty.com in October 2026; £950 for a double at 2024 full price) is the best value hybrid once it’s on sale, which is most of the time.

Are Simba mattresses worth the money?

At sale prices, yes. The Simba Hybrid Pro is Expert Reviews’ favourite hybrid and holds 4.3★ from over 62,000 Trustpilot reviews. At the full £1,299 double list price it’s expensive, and lightweight side sleepers may find it too firm.
