Puffy vs Nectar: Which Mattress Wins in 2026?

We lined up RTINGS’ lab measurements, five expert outlets and thousands of owner reviews for the Puffy Lux and Cloud against the Nectar Premier and Classic. Nectar wins on price and couples; Puffy wins on plushness and service.

Puffy vs Nectar: the short verdict

For most people, Nectar is the better buy — and it isn’t especially close on price. The Nectar Premier Memory Foam costs about $999 for a queen, roughly $550 less than the Puffy Lux Hybrid, and RTINGS measured it ahead on the two things couples care about most: motion isolation (8.8 vs 8.0) and cooling (8.0 vs 7.2). Drop a tier and the gap widens. The $699 Nectar Classic beats the $1,049 Puffy Cloud on support, cooling, motion isolation, edge support and durability in our sub-scores, and ties it on pressure relief.

But Puffy wins two things that matter a lot to the right sleeper. First, the Puffy Lux is genuinely plusher and better at pressure relief (7.9 vs 7.2), which is why RTINGS scores it higher for side sleepers. Second, Puffy is the easier company to deal with: 3.2 stars on Trustpilot against Nectar’s 1.4, free returns with no deductions, and a donated mattress at the end of a return. If you are a side sleeper with sore shoulders, or you simply want the brand with fewer horror stories, the Lux is the pick.

Our opinionated shortcut: buy the Nectar Premier unless you are a dedicated side sleeper or you have been burned by mattress customer service before. In either of those cases the Puffy Lux earns its premium. Skip the Puffy Cloud entirely unless it is heavily discounted; the Nectar Classic is the better cheap foam bed by almost every measure we have.

Which Puffy and Nectar models should you compare?

Both brands sell more mattresses than this page covers, and a lot of “Puffy vs Nectar” articles compare the wrong pair. Puffy sells three beds: the all-foam Cloud, the Lux Hybrid and the flagship Royal Hybrid. Nectar sells foam and hybrid versions at three tiers: Classic, Premier and Luxe. The fair fights are by price and feel, not by name.

The headline match-up is the Puffy Lux Hybrid against the Nectar Premier Memory Foam. These are the two models each brand pushes hardest, they sit closest in firmness (RTINGS measured 43 and 45 Pa/mm, both medium), and they are the beds most shoppers end up choosing between. The budget match-up is the Puffy Cloud against the Nectar Classic, the cheapest adult mattress from each brand. We also bring in the Nectar Premier Hybrid where it helps, because if you want coils specifically, that is the like-for-like rival to the Lux.

We left out the Puffy Royal (around $2,449) and the Nectar Luxe (around $1,399) because few people cross-shop them. The Royal is a different price class, and RTINGS measured its longevity at just 5.1, so it is hard to recommend over either brand’s mid-tier bed. Read our full Puffy review and Nectar review if you want every model.

The map makes the core trade-off visible. Puffy’s beds sit higher on price at similar firmness. Nectar’s cluster sits lower and slightly firmer. Nothing here is extreme: all five beds land between medium and medium-firm, so the differences you’ll actually feel are about how the foam behaves, how much the bed sleeps warm, and how far it lets you sink in.

Puffy Lux vs Nectar Premier, head to head

Start with what each one is. The Puffy Lux is a 12″ hybrid: layers of plush foam over individually wrapped coils. The Nectar Premier is a 13″ all-foam bed with a thicker memory-foam comfort layer than the Classic. So this is not just Puffy vs Nectar. It is also a quiet version of the memory foam vs hybrid question, and the results line up with what that difference usually predicts.

Pressure relief: Puffy wins. RTINGS scored the Lux 7.9 for pressure relief, against 7.2 for the Premier. That fits every expert description of the Lux as soft, cloud-like and softer than its “medium-plush” label suggests; testers put it at 5 to 5.5 out of 10. RTINGS rated it 7.8 for side sleepers overall and 8.9 for heavier side sleepers. The Premier is no slouch for side sleeping (RTINGS 7.2, and Sleepopolis recommends it for side sleepers and hip pain), but it holds you a little higher.

Motion isolation: Nectar wins. The Premier’s 8.8 is one of the best motion isolation scores in our database, and Sleep Foundation gave it 9.0 for both motion and pressure relief. The Lux’s 8.0 is very good for a hybrid, but coils always pass a little more movement than a solid foam slab. If a partner’s 3 a.m. bathroom trip wakes you, this is the deciding category; our best mattress for couples guide explains why.

Cooling: Nectar wins, with an asterisk. RTINGS measured the Premier at 8.0 for cooling against the Lux’s 7.2, which surprised us — foam usually loses to coils here. But the outlets disagree. Sleep Foundation scored the Premier’s temperature control only 6.0, and owner complaints about foam heat are common across Nectar’s line. The Lux’s coils give air somewhere to move, and RTINGS’ result is the only lab measurement we have for both. Treat this one as a narrow, lab-backed Nectar win rather than a sure thing. If heat is your main problem, neither is the best choice; see our hot sleepers guide.

Edge support: Puffy wins. The Lux scored 6.9 against the Premier’s 6.2. Neither is great — RTINGS noted the Premier’s edges compress — but the coil perimeter helps the Lux. If you sit on the side of the bed every morning, that difference is noticeable.

Support: tie-ish. The Lux scores 6.8 and the Premier 6.9. Both are on the soft side of medium, and neither suits stomach sleepers or most people over 230 lb. Sleep Foundation explicitly says the Lux isn’t for stomach sleepers or most people over that weight, and Mattress Clarity says the Premier is weak for stomach sleepers.

Durability: Puffy, narrowly. RTINGS rated the Lux’s longevity 6.0 and the Premier’s 5.7. Both reflect lower-density foams; neither is a ten-year bed on lab evidence alone. Both brands back their beds with lifetime-style warranties, which we come back to below.

Value: Nectar, clearly. At $999 against $1,549, the Premier earns 8.5 for value and the Lux 7. The Premier also holds Tom’s Guide’s Best Memory Foam Mattress title from its 2025 Sleep Awards, although Tom’s Guide’s own full review was cooler at 3.7 out of 5. Add it up and the Premier wins four categories outright, the Lux wins three, and the Premier costs a third less.

Puffy Cloud vs Nectar Classic: the budget fight

This one is a rout. The Nectar Classic Memory Foam costs about $699 for a queen. The Puffy Cloud costs about $1,049. You would expect the more expensive bed to win on something, and on our data it mostly doesn’t.

The Classic leads on support (7.1 vs 6.8), cooling (7.2 vs 6.3), motion isolation (8.4 vs 7.5), edge support (6.2 vs 5.3), durability (5.7 vs 5.3) and value (9 vs 7). Pressure relief ties at 6.8. That is six wins and a draw. Forbes Vetted named the Classic its best affordable mattress, Sleepopolis gives it 4.6 out of 5, and Sleep Foundation 8.7 out of 10. The Cloud’s expert scores are lower and more scattered: 7.7 from Sleep Foundation, 3.9 out of 5 from Mattress Clarity, 4.4 from Sleepopolis.

The Cloud’s bigger problem is that nobody agrees how it feels. Sleep Foundation rated it a 5, a medium. Mattress Clarity and Tom’s Guide both put it at 7, which is firm. That is a two-point spread on a ten-point scale, and it suggests the Cloud feels very different depending on your body weight. The Classic is more predictable: testers placed it between 6 and 7.5, and RTINGS measured it medium-firm at 50 Pa/mm.

The Cloud is also only 10″ tall against the Classic’s 12″, and it sleeps warmer by our sub-scores. Its real advantages are brand-level, not product-level: Puffy’s easier returns and better service record. If those matter more to you than the mattress itself, fine. Otherwise, take the Nectar Classic and spend the $400 you saved on a good pillow and a waterproof protector. It sits near the top of our best budget mattress list for a reason.

One honest caveat for the Classic: it is not a side sleeper’s bed. RTINGS scored it 6.8 for side sleeping, and Mattress Clarity and Forbes both flag it as a little firm for strict side sleepers. If you sleep on your side and your budget is under $700, read our side sleepers guide before buying either of these.

Read across the rows and a pattern appears. Nectar wins the categories where foam density and price matter — motion, value and, on RTINGS’ numbers, cooling. Puffy wins the categories where plushness and coils matter — pressure relief and edges, plus a slight edge on durability for the Lux. The Cloud is the odd one out: it doesn’t win a single row against the other three.

† Owner rating from the brand’s own site only — treat it as a ceiling. Brand-level Trustpilot scores are shown on each brand review.

A note on our Research Score. It blends 50% measured performance, 30% expert consensus and 20% owner ratings, with brand-run review widgets down-weighted to a quarter of independent platforms. That matters a lot here, because Puffy’s 4.9 stars on its own site is pooled across every Puffy mattress, and Nectar’s 4.8 stars is a site-wide average across more than 55,000 reviews. Neither tells you much about the specific bed you’re buying. The full method is on our How we rate page.

Feel & firmness: what each mattress actually sleeps like

Numbers only get you so far with comfort. Here is how the four beds feel, translated from the lab and expert descriptions into plain English.

Puffy Lux Hybrid

SoftMediumFirm

5.3/10 · Medium — Testers 5–6.5 (Mattress Clarity 6.5 in Aug 2026); RTINGS Medium (43 Pa/mm).

Nectar Premier Memory Foam

SoftMediumFirm

6/10 · Medium-firm — Testers 5.5–6; RTINGS Medium (45 Pa/mm).

Puffy Cloud

SoftMediumFirm

6/10 · Medium-firm — Testers disagree: 5 (Sleep Foundation) to 7 (Mattress Clarity, Tom’s Guide).

Nectar Classic Memory Foam

SoftMediumFirm

6.5/10 · Medium-firm — Testers 6–7.5; RTINGS Medium-Firm (50 Pa/mm).

Puffy Lux: soft, enveloping and plush on top, with springy support underneath. Testers rate it 5 to 5.5 out of 10, softer than Puffy’s own label. Tom’s Guide was the sceptic: it found the Lux very soft, questioned the support, and thought it suited light side sleepers best. It also noted off-gassing out of the box. If you like to sink in and feel held, this is your bed. If you like to sleep “on top,” it isn’t.

Nectar Premier: classic memory foam. You sink in slowly, the foam contours around shoulders and hips, and it takes a moment to recover when you move. Testers place it at 5.5 to 6 and RTINGS at medium. It is slightly firmer and noticeably slower than the Lux, which is exactly why it isolates motion so well — and why combination sleepers who switch positions often may find it a little sticky.

Puffy Cloud: a foam bed whose firmness depends on who you ask. Lighter testers tend to find it firm; Sleep Foundation found it medium. Expect a moderate hug, not deep cradling. It has no zoning, and its edges are the weakest of the four.

Nectar Classic: medium-firm memory foam that holds your hips up, which is why back sleepers and couples rate it so well. Some owners call it “hard as a rock” in the first weeks; memory foam usually softens a little with use and warmth. Mattress Clarity reported about 48 hours of off-gassing, which is typical for a boxed foam bed.

On the science of firmness: the best-known randomised trial on mattress firmness and back pain, Kovacs and colleagues in the Lancet (2003), found medium-firm mattresses produced better pain outcomes than firm ones. That is one reason we lean toward the Classic and Premier for back sleepers with mild pain, and away from the softest end of Puffy’s line. Sleep Foundation’s firmness guide makes the same body-weight point we make here: lighter people experience every mattress as firmer.

Puffy vs Nectar by sleeping position and body type

The quickest way to decide between these brands is to start with how you sleep, then check your weight. Here’s our call for each case, using RTINGS’ position scores where it tested both beds and expert guidance where it didn’t.

  • Side sleepers (130–230 lb): Puffy Lux. Its 7.9 pressure relief and RTINGS side-sleeper score of 7.8 lead this group. The Nectar Premier (7.2) is a solid runner-up if the budget is tight.
  • Lightweight side sleepers (under 130 lb): Puffy Lux again. Tom’s Guide specifically thought it suited light side sleepers. Avoid the Nectar Classic and the Puffy Cloud, which lighter testers find firm.
  • Heavier side sleepers (over 230 lb): cautious Puffy Lux. RTINGS scored heavier side sleepers at 8.9 on it, but Sleep Foundation says it isn’t for most people over 230 lb. If you’re in this group, trial it and watch for hip sinkage, or look at our best mattress for heavy people.
  • Back sleepers: Nectar Classic on a budget, Nectar Premier if you want more cushioning. The Classic’s support score (7.1) is the best of the four.
  • Stomach sleepers: neither brand’s plusher beds. The Nectar Classic is the least-bad option here (RTINGS stomach score 7.1). The Lux and the Premier are both flagged as too soft by multiple outlets.
  • Combination sleepers: Puffy Lux. The coils make it easier to turn over than slow memory foam.
  • Couples: Nectar Premier for motion isolation; Puffy Lux if one partner is a side sleeper who needs the extra cushioning.
  • Back pain: Nectar Classic or Premier. Medium-firm support matters more than plushness for most lower-back pain, per the Kovacs trial.

If none of these fits neatly, our 30-second mattress finder weighs your position, weight, heat and budget across every bed we track, including these four.

Trial, warranty, return fees & delivery

On paper the two brands look identical: 365-night trials and lifetime-style warranties on everything. The details are where they split, and the details are what you’ll deal with if the bed doesn’t work out.

Returns: Puffy is cleaner. Puffy returns are free once you’ve kept the bed for 30 nights, and the mattress is donated rather than dumped. There are two catches. You can make at most two returns per household, and the policy applies only to direct purchases from Puffy. Nectar also charges no processing fee, but shipping, White Glove and recycling fees aren’t refunded. If you paid for White Glove delivery, that money is gone if you return the bed.

Trial length: same, with a footnote. Puffy’s trial is 365 nights only for orders placed on or after 23 February 2026. Many review sites still say 101 nights because that was the old policy. Nectar has offered 365 nights for years. Either way, you must keep each bed for 30 nights before starting a return. That break-in period is sensible: memory foam really does change over the first few weeks.

Warranty: Nectar sounds better, Puffy is simpler. Nectar’s “Forever” warranty includes free replacement for the first ten years, but it only covers dips deeper than 1.5″, and owners report that claims are slow and require photos. Puffy offers a lifetime limited warranty; its complaint record includes warranty denials for reasons such as “improper storage.” Neither warranty is a guarantee that the bed will stay comfortable. They protect against defects and deep sagging, not gradual softening.

Delivery: a wash. Both ship free in a box. Nectar typically ships in one to two business days and offers White Glove setup for an extra fee. Puffy ships free and boxed too. Owners of both brands report occasional delivery and white-glove failures, so don’t schedule delivery for the day before guests arrive.

Owner trust: Puffy vs Nectar on Trustpilot, GoodBed & BBB

Every mattress brand shows near-perfect stars on its own website. Puffy displays 4.9 stars from more than 14,000 reviews, but that rating is pooled across every Puffy mattress. Nectar displays 4.8 stars across more than 55,000. Neither number helps you choose, so we look at independent platforms instead.

14% positive4% neutral82% negativeTrustpilot, n=262 (brand-level)

GoodBed 3.8/5 (76/100, n=2,884)

Puffy wins owner trust, but not by a landslide. Puffy’s Trustpilot profile is sharply split: 46% five-star, 44% one-star. Nectar’s is lopsided: 82% one-star. On GoodBed, which collects more comfort-focused reviews, the gap narrows to 4.05 against 3.8. Trustpilot draws people with service problems, so read it as a measure of how each company handles things going wrong, not as a comfort score. By that measure, Puffy handles it better.

Context helps here. Nectar sells far more mattresses than Puffy, and its parent company, Resident, also owns DreamCloud, which sits at 1.9 stars on Trustpilot. The pattern across Resident brands is the same: good beds, patchy after-sales service. If you’re weighing Nectar against its sister brand rather than Puffy, our Nectar vs DreamCloud comparison covers it.

  4. Firmer than expected (‘hard as a rock’) for some
Ordered by how often each theme appears in the Trustpilot, BBB, GoodBed and review-site complaint roundups linked in Sources. Bar length shows rank, not a count.

The complaint themes line up with the lab data. Puffy owners most often complain about back or hip pain and deep sinkage, which is the predictable downside of a soft bed with middling support scores. Nectar owners most often complain about sinking or dips within one to two years and slow warranty claims, which fits RTINGS’ longevity score of 5.7 for both the Classic and the Premier. Both sets of praise line up too: Puffy owners love the cloud-like comfort, and Nectar owners love the value and motion isolation.

Two transparency flags. Puffy hosts “independent” lab reviews from NapLab and Sleep Advisor on its own domain; treat those as marketing, not evidence. And neither brand’s on-site star rating is per model, so a 4.9 on the Puffy Lux page tells you about Puffy as a whole, not about the Lux.

Real prices: never pay Puffy or Nectar list price

Both brands anchor their prices to inflated “list” figures and then run a near-permanent sale. Puffy frames it as a “Total Value” with an always-on discount code. Nectar shows a struck-through price on almost every page, all year. The sale price is the real price.

“List” price vs what people actually pay (queen)

Nectar Premier Memory Foam$999 $2,316 −57%
Nectar Classic Memory Foam$699 $1,567 −55%
Nectar Premier Hybrid$1,199 $2,639 −55%

Two practical takeaways. First, the meaningful comparison is sale price against sale price: $1,549 for the Lux against $999 for the Premier, and $1,049 for the Cloud against $699 for the Classic. Second, don’t let countdown timers rush you. Both brands discount around every holiday weekend, and the difference between a “regular” sale and a holiday sale is usually small. If you need dimensions before you buy, our mattress size chart covers every US size.

Who should skip both? Stomach sleepers, most people over 230 lb who sleep on their back or stomach, and anyone who wants a bed to last a decade. All four beds score between 5.3 and 6.0 for durability at RTINGS, which is middling. If you’re in one of those groups, look at firmer hybrids with denser foams or latex, and read our best mattress roundup for alternatives.

And if you’re still torn? Order the Nectar Premier. It is the cheaper bed, it wins more categories, and the 365-night trial means you can switch to the Lux if you find yourself wanting more cushioning by month two. Going the other way — starting with the Lux and falling back to the Premier — costs you more up front for a bed that, on the evidence, most people won’t need.

Puffy vs Nectar FAQ

Is Puffy better than Nectar?

For side sleepers and people who value customer service, yes — the Puffy Lux has better pressure relief (RTINGS 7.9 vs 7.2) and Puffy rates 3.2 on Trustpilot against Nectar’s 1.4. For most other sleepers, Nectar is better value: the Nectar Premier costs about $550 less than the Lux and beats it on motion isolation and cooling in RTINGS’ tests.

Which is softer, Puffy or Nectar?

Puffy. Testers rate the Puffy Lux 5 to 5.5 out of 10, softer than its label, while the Nectar Premier tests at 5.5 to 6 and the Nectar Classic at 6 to 7.5. The Puffy Cloud is the exception — testers disagree, with ratings from 5 to 7.

Is the Puffy Cloud or Nectar Classic better?

The Nectar Classic. It costs about $350 less and beats the Cloud on support, cooling, motion isolation, edge support, durability and value in our sub-scores, tying on pressure relief. Buy the Cloud only if you get it at a deep discount and prefer Puffy’s return policy.

Which sleeps cooler, Puffy or Nectar?

On RTINGS’ lab tests, the Nectar Premier (8.0) sleeps cooler than the Puffy Lux (7.2), and the Nectar Classic (7.2) cooler than the Puffy Cloud (6.3). Sleep Foundation scored the Premier’s temperature control only 6.0, so results vary. Very hot sleepers should look at latex or coil-heavy beds instead.

Do Puffy and Nectar charge return fees?

Neither charges a processing fee. Puffy returns are free after 30 nights, the bed is donated, but you’re limited to two returns per household and only for direct purchases. Nectar doesn’t refund shipping, White Glove or recycling fees, so a return can cost you money if you paid for those extras.

Which lasts longer, Puffy or Nectar?

They’re close. RTINGS rated the Puffy Lux’s longevity 6.0, the Nectar Premier and Classic 5.7, and our Puffy Cloud durability score is 5.3. All are middling, mostly because of foam density. Both brands offer lifetime-style warranties, but Nectar’s only covers dips deeper than 1.5 inches.

Is Puffy or Nectar better for couples?

Nectar. The Nectar Premier scored 8.8 for motion isolation at RTINGS, against 8.0 for the Puffy Lux. If one partner is a side sleeper who needs more cushioning, the Lux is still a good couples’ bed, but light sleepers will notice the difference.
