Helix vs Nectar: Which Mattress Should You Buy in 2026?

We lined up RTINGS’ lab scores by body weight, expert awards and owner ratings for the Helix Midnight, Midnight Luxe and Dawn against Nectar’s Classic, Classic Hybrid, Premier Hybrid and Luxe Hybrid. Helix wins on comfort, edges and owner trust; Nectar wins on price and motion isolation. Both now give you 365 nights.

Helix vs Nectar: the short verdict

If you can afford it, the Helix Midnight Luxe is the better mattress than anything Nectar sells, and the margin is clearest for side sleepers. RTINGS scored it 8.2 for side sleeping overall, 8.5 for average-weight side sleepers and 8.9 for heavier ones, with pressure relief of 8.3, edge support of 9.0 and cooling of 8.2. It is the only bed in this comparison that scores at least 7 for every sleeping position at every body weight RTINGS tests. No Nectar manages that. Helix’s owners are also far happier: 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot against 1.4 for Nectar.

Nectar wins when money and motion matter more than anything else. The Nectar Classic Hybrid costs $849 for a queen, against roughly $1,183 for the Core Helix Midnight on sale. It isolates motion better (8.6 against 7.4), suits light and average stomach sleepers better, and comes with a 365-night trial. Helix now matches that: its own site lists 365 nights (checked 27 October 2026), even though some reviews still quote 120. Note that Helix is not one of our affiliate partners. We earn nothing on Helix links, and we do earn on Nectar’s.

Our shortcut: buy Helix if you sleep on your side, have back pain, or sit on the edge of the bed a lot; buy Nectar if you are on a budget, share the bed with a light sleeper, or sleep on your stomach and weigh under about 230 lb. If you are a lightweight side sleeper, Helix is the only one of the two brands with a hybrid that RTINGS rates above 7 for you. Every Nectar hybrid it tested scored between 4.9 and 5.8 for light side sleepers.

Which Helix and Nectar models should you compare?

The brands are built in opposite ways, which is why most “Helix vs Nectar” articles end up comparing the wrong beds. Nectar sells a short ladder of mattresses, Classic, Premier and Luxe, in all-foam and hybrid versions. Each step up is taller and softer. Helix, which belongs to 3Z Brands (the same parent company as Bear, Brooklyn Bedding, Nolah, Leesa and Birch), sells a grid. AARP counts 27 Helix models. Each named model is a firmness aimed at a sleep position, and each comes in Core, Luxe and Elite tiers. Our Helix review explains the full grid.

The fair fights are by job. The Helix Midnight, the medium hybrid the Helix quiz recommends to most side and combination sleepers, faces the Nectar Classic Hybrid, Nectar’s entry coil bed. Both are value hybrids, and RTINGS has tested both. One step up, the Helix Midnight Luxe faces the Nectar Premier Hybrid and the softer Nectar Luxe Hybrid, which RTINGS tested in August 2026. For people who want a firm bed for the back or stomach, the Helix Dawn faces the Nectar Classic, Nectar’s firmest-feeling all-foam bed. RTINGS hasn’t tested the Dawn, so that matchup leans on Mattress Clarity, Sleep Foundation and AARP.

The map shows the basic trade-off. Nectar clusters at the bottom of the price axis in a medium to medium-firm band. Helix sits a few hundred dollars higher at the same firmness, and the Luxe tier sits higher again. A note on Helix prices: helixsleep.com blocks automated price checks, so the queen prices here were copied by hand from the brand site on 27 October 2026, when Helix was running 20% off sitewide with code FALLSALE20. Helix runs a sale like this so often that we treat the coded price as typical. The per-size table below still comes from Mattress Clarity. Check the live checkout before you buy.

Helix Midnight vs Nectar Classic Hybrid

This is the value matchup, and the one most shoppers mean when they search “Helix Midnight vs Nectar”. Both are boxed pocket-coil hybrids around 12 inches tall. They feel different. RTINGS measured the Midnight (2024 build) at 45 Pa/mm, a true medium. The Classic Hybrid measured 56 Pa/mm, the firmest Nectar RTINGS has tested. On the Midnight you sink in a bit more at the shoulder. On the Nectar you sit more on top.

Edge support: Helix, by a mile. RTINGS gave the Midnight 9.6 for edge support, one of the best results we track at any price. Mattress Clarity’s tester agreed: “The edge support is extremely impressive.” The Classic Hybrid scored a decent 7.4, helped by two rows of thicker perimeter coils. If you sit on the edge to get dressed, or two of you share a full or queen and use every inch, the Midnight is the clear choice.

Side sleepers: Helix. RTINGS scored the Midnight 5.6, 7.6 and 8.6 for light, average and heavy side sleepers. The Classic Hybrid scored 5.0, 6.9 and 8.1. The Helix wins at every weight because it is softer at the surface. Neither bed is good for a side sleeper under about 130 lb. The Midnight Luxe, below, is the answer for that group.

Back and stomach sleepers: Nectar, narrowly. The Classic Hybrid’s firmer surface keeps hips level. RTINGS gave it 7.4 and 7.1 for light and average back sleepers and 7.6 and 7.3 for light and average stomach sleepers. The Midnight scored 7.1 and 6.9 on the back and 7.0 and 6.7 on the stomach. Both fall to about 6.1 to 6.3 for heavy back and stomach sleepers, so neither suits that group.

Motion isolation: Nectar. 8.6 against 7.4 at RTINGS. This is the Nectar’s signature strength. The flip side is bounce: the Midnight scored 8.0 for responsiveness against 7.3 for the Classic Hybrid, so the Helix is easier to roll over on. Combination sleepers will prefer the Helix. A light sleeper next to a restless partner will prefer the Nectar.

Cooling and durability: a draw. Cooling is 8.0 against 7.9, too close to matter. Longevity is weak on both, 5.4 for the Midnight and 5.7 for the Classic Hybrid. RTINGS flagged the Nectar’s memory foam as lower-grade. Neither is a ten-year bed on the lab’s evidence.

Value: Nectar. The Classic Hybrid costs $849 for a queen. The Midnight’s typical deal price is about $1,183, and its list price is $1,479. That gap of roughly $334 buys you much better edges, better side-sleeper scores and a livelier feel.

Our call: side and combination sleepers between about 130 and 230 lb should pay the extra for the Midnight. Mattress Clarity recommends it for side and back sleepers under about 230 lb, and AARP named it its best overall mattress for neck pain. Back and stomach sleepers under 230 lb, couples, and anyone with a hard budget ceiling should buy the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Our Nectar Classic Hybrid review has the full lab breakdown.

Helix Midnight Luxe vs Nectar Premier Hybrid and Luxe Hybrid

This is the premium matchup, and on lab data it is the most one-sided part of the comparison. The Midnight Luxe is a 13.5″ zoned hybrid with a pillow top (60×80×13.5″ queen, per Helix). RTINGS measured it at 44 Pa/mm and wrote that its “medium firmness [is] suitable for average and heavier side sleepers and lighter back/stomach sleepers.” Nectar has two answers. The Premier Hybrid is the closest match on firmness (45 Pa/mm) and costs $1,199. The Luxe Hybrid is the plusher, pricier option at $1,649 and 30 Pa/mm.

Against the Premier Hybrid, the Helix wins almost everything. Pressure relief is 8.3 against 6.8. Edge support is 9.0 against 6.3; RTINGS found the Nectar’s edges compress into a ramp. Longevity is 6.8 against 6.2, and support 7.2 against 7.0. Cooling is 8.2 against 8.0, effectively a tie. The Nectar wins one category, motion isolation, at 8.8 against 8.2. The sleeper scores tell the same story. The Premier Hybrid scored 4.9 for light side sleepers, and the Midnight Luxe 7.1. Heavier back sleepers get 6.5 on the Nectar and 7.3 on the Helix.

Against the Nectar Luxe Hybrid, it is closer for side sleepers. RTINGS scored the Luxe Hybrid 8.3 for average-weight side sleepers and 8.8 for heavy ones. That is within a whisker of the Midnight Luxe’s 8.5 and 8.9. Its cooling (8.0), motion isolation (8.3) and longevity (6.6) are all close to the Helix too. But RTINGS rated its support only 6.0 and wrote that “its support is disappointing for average-weight and heavier people.” Average-weight back sleepers score 6.1 on it, and stomach sleepers 5.6. Its edge score is 7.3 against the Helix’s 9.0. The Luxe Hybrid is a side-sleeper specialist. The Midnight Luxe is a side-sleeper bed that also works for everyone else in the household.

Price: Nectar. The Midnight Luxe’s typical deal price is $1,999 for a queen, against a list price of $2,499. The Premier Hybrid is $800 cheaper and the Luxe Hybrid $350 cheaper.

Our call: the Midnight Luxe is the better bed, and for this price gap the case is strong. It also has the strongest expert backing in this comparison. NapLab ranks it third for back pain and fourth for side sleepers, and AARP calls the Luxe Helix’s most popular collection. Buy the Nectar Luxe Hybrid only if you are a strict side sleeper over about 130 lb who wants a softer, sink-in memory-foam feel and wants to save $350. Buy the Premier Hybrid if motion isolation is your top priority and the budget stops at about $1,200. See our Nectar Premier Hybrid review and Nectar Luxe review for both in detail.

Helix Dawn vs Nectar Classic: firm beds for back and stomach sleepers

Shoppers who want a firm bed for back pain or stomach sleeping often compare Helix’s firmest Core model with Nectar’s best-seller. They are very different products. The Dawn is a firm hybrid. Helix and Sleep Foundation rate it 8 out of 10 and Mattress Clarity measured 7. The Nectar Classic is a 12″ all-foam bed that RTINGS measured as medium-firm (50 Pa/mm). Sleep Foundation recommends the Dawn for back and stomach sleepers over 230 lb. The Classic suits back sleepers under 230 lb and couples.

Read the bars with care. The Classic’s numbers come from RTINGS. The Dawn’s are our conversions of Mattress Clarity and Sleep Foundation scores, because no lab has published a full RTINGS-style test of it. Even so, the direction is clear. The Dawn wins on support, edge support and bounce. Mattress Clarity gave it 5 out of 5 for responsiveness and 4.6 for edges. The Classic wins clearly on motion isolation, 8.4 at RTINGS against 2.7 out of 5 at Mattress Clarity for the Dawn, and on pressure relief. Mattress Clarity warns that “anyone who shares their bed with a partner or pet may want to steer clear” of the Dawn.

AARP gave the Dawn 9.9 out of 10, its joint-highest Helix score, so expert opinion isn’t the problem. Fit is. The Dawn is excellent for a heavier stomach sleeper who needs hips held up and sleeps alone or with a heavy sleeper. The Nectar Classic is the better buy for lighter and average back and stomach sleepers. RTINGS scored it 7.5 for light back sleepers and 7.7 for light stomach sleepers, and it costs $699, about $484 less than the Dawn’s typical price. Over about 230 lb, though, the Classic’s foam gives out: Sleep Foundation scored heavy stomach sleepers just 5.5 on it.

Our call: under 230 lb, buy the Nectar Classic. Over 230 lb and sleeping on your stomach or back, buy the Helix Dawn, or the Helix Plus if you want better pressure relief and lower motion transfer. If what you really want is firm support for back pain rather than a firm bed, skip both and read the next sections. A medium-firm Helix is the better tool, and the best firm mattress guide covers firmer options from other brands.

Zoned support: what Helix’s coils do that Nectar’s don’t

The biggest engineering difference between the brands is under the foam. RTINGS cut open each of these beds and recorded the coil layout. The Midnight Luxe uses three types of pocket coil: thicker 13-gauge coils under the head, feet and lumbar area, 14-gauge elsewhere, and reinforced 15-gauge coils at the edges. RTINGS says the zoning is most noticeable for heavier sleepers. That is what lets the shoulders sink while the lower back stays supported. AARP describes zoned lumbar coils as one of the things the Luxe tier adds over Core.

Nectar takes a simpler approach. The Classic Hybrid and Luxe Hybrid use 15-gauge pocket coils with a thicker 13-gauge perimeter, with no zoning reported. The Premier Hybrid’s springs are actually softer in the middle: RTINGS measured 44 Pa/mm at the head and feet and 39 Pa/mm at the lumbar. That helps shoulders and hips sink, but it is the opposite of what a heavier back sleeper needs. It explains why the Premier Hybrid’s back score falls from 7.3 to 6.5 as weight rises, while the Midnight Luxe holds 7.3 for both average and heavy back sleepers.

The Core Midnight shows that zoning isn’t everything. RTINGS reports 14-gauge coils with tightly wound 15-gauge edges and no zoning on the 2024 build, yet it still posts the best edge score here. Its weakness is support for heavier back and stomach sleepers (6.3 and 6.1), which is the gap the Luxe tier’s zoning closes. If you are deciding between Core and Luxe Helix for back pain, the zoning is the main reason to pay more.

Helix vs Nectar for side sleepers, back pain and every sleeper type

Sleep position and body weight decide this more than brand does. These are our picks, using RTINGS’ weight-split scores wherever both beds were tested.

  • Side sleepers under 130 lb: Helix Midnight Luxe (RTINGS 7.1). Every Nectar hybrid scores 4.9 to 5.8 for you, and the Core Midnight 5.6.
  • Average-weight side sleepers: Helix Midnight Luxe (8.5). The Nectar Luxe Hybrid (8.3) is the value runner-up. Our best mattress for side sleepers ranks both against the field.
  • Heavier side sleepers: a near tie. The Midnight Luxe scores 8.9, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid 8.8 and the Core Midnight 8.6. The Nectar Classic Hybrid scores 8.1 for only $849, a bargain for this group.
  • Back pain: Helix. The Midnight Luxe holds 7.3 to 7.7 for back sleepers at every weight and has zoned lumbar coils. NapLab ranks it third for back pain. For back sleepers specifically, the Helix Dusk Luxe is AARP’s best mattress for sciatica at 9.9 out of 10. The Kovacs trial in the Lancet found medium-firm mattresses gave better outcomes for chronic low-back pain than firm ones. Both Helix beds sit in that band. Our best mattress for back pain guide covers the evidence.
  • Back sleepers on a budget: Nectar Classic Hybrid (7.4 light, 7.1 average) or the all-foam Nectar Classic. See best mattress for back sleepers.
  • Stomach sleepers under 230 lb: Nectar Classic Hybrid (7.6 light, 7.3 average). Its firmer surface beats the Midnight’s 7.0 and 6.7.
  • Stomach sleepers over 230 lb: Helix Dawn. No Nectar hybrid scores above 6.4 for heavy stomach sleepers, and Sleep Foundation scored the foam Classic just 5.5 for them. Our stomach sleepers guide has more firm picks.
  • Couples who wake easily: Nectar. The Premier Hybrid (8.8) and Classic Hybrid (8.6) beat every Helix tested. Our best mattress for couples weighs motion against the rest.
  • Combination sleepers: Helix. Responsiveness of 8.0 to 8.2 makes rolling over easy, against 7.3 to 7.8 for Nectar’s hybrids and 5.3 for the foam Classic.
  • Hot sleepers: a tie on the hybrids, with cooling of 8.0 to 8.2 for Helix and 7.9 to 8.0 for Nectar. Avoid the all-foam Classic (7.2) and Mattress Clarity’s warmer Helix models, the Dawn and Plus. Our hot sleepers guide has cooler options.
  • Sleepers over 230 lb: Helix Plus, which Mattress Clarity says is rated to 500 lb per side. Nectar has no model designed specifically for sleepers over 230 lb. See best mattress for heavy people.

A note on firmness labels. Helix calls the Midnight medium, and RTINGS agreed at 45 Pa/mm. Nectar calls the Classic Hybrid medium, yet RTINGS measured it at 56, firmer than any Helix it has tested. Sleep Foundation’s firmness guide makes the point that lighter people experience every bed as firmer, which is why the light-sleeper column in the chart above swings so far. If you are unsure where you fall, our mattress finder weighs position, weight and heat.

Helix sleep quiz vs Nectar’s simple lineup

The brands sell in opposite ways. Helix starts with a sleep quiz that asks how you sleep, how much you weigh and what you care about, then points you to one slot in its grid. Side sleepers go to Sunset, Midnight or Twilight. Back and stomach sleepers go to Moonlight, Dusk or Dawn. Anyone over 230 lb goes to the Plus. Then you choose Core, Luxe or Elite. Trustpilot reviewers repeatedly credit the quiz with matching them to the right bed. It is Helix’s real advantage, and it is why the brand wins awards across so many categories, from neck pain to heavy sleepers.

Nectar asks almost nothing. You choose a tier (Classic, Premier, Luxe) and a core (foam or hybrid), and each step up is simply softer and taller. That is easier, but it means Nectar has no firm model for heavy sleepers and nothing soft enough at the entry level for a light side sleeper. RTINGS scored the Classic 5.0 for that group. If you sit near the middle of the weight range and sleep on your back or in mixed positions, Nectar’s simplicity costs you nothing. If you sit at either end, Helix’s grid is far more likely to have the right bed.

The quiz has two weaknesses. First, outlets disagree on Helix firmness. The Dawn is 8 out of 10 for Helix and 7 for Mattress Clarity, and the Midnight is “medium” at AARP, 6 at Sleep Foundation and 6.5 at Mattress Clarity. Second, the quiz will happily suggest a Luxe or Elite tier. The Luxe is worth it for side sleepers, but that step is a budget question you can answer yourself. With 27 models, Helix suits people who know how they sleep. If you don’t, Nectar’s four-bed choice is easier to get right.

Trial, warranty and shipping: a year at both, Helix covers more

The policies are closer than the marketing suggests — and since Helix confirmed its year-long trial, closer than most reviews say.

Trial: a draw. Nectar’s 365-night trial is printed on its policy page, and Helix’s own site says 365 nights on its product page, collection page and FAQ (checked 27 October 2026), matching Sleep Foundation and sister brand Bear. Some reviews — AARP’s October 2026 review, SleepSage and Mattress Clarity’s current Midnight review — still list 120 nights — that is Helix’s trial for toppers and its crib mattress, not its mattresses. Both brands make you keep the bed for 30 nights before a return, so either way you get a full year to decide. After night 30, Helix offers an exchange or a full refund, for orders placed directly on helixsleep.com.

Warranty: Helix, narrowly. Both brands repair or replace defective beds free for the first ten years. Helix then prorates years 11 to 20, so you pay a rising share of the original price. Nectar calls its warranty “Forever”. The difference that matters sooner is the sag threshold. Helix counts a 1″ sag as a defect, according to Sleep Foundation, while Nectar requires dips deeper than 1.5″. Nectar owners on Trustpilot also complain about slow claims that need photos. As AARP notes, a warranty doesn’t guarantee a bed will feel supportive for life.

Shipping and returns: a draw. Both ship free in a box in the contiguous US; Helix says 2–5 business days, with the Elite arriving in two boxes. Nectar offers paid White Glove setup; Helix offers in-home setup and old-mattress removal in some ZIP codes, and Alaska, Hawaii and Canada pay a delivery fee ($250, according to Sleep Foundation). Note that Helix beds need a foundation or platform, not a box spring. Helix arranges pickup and a full refund after the break-in period. Nectar charges no processing fee but doesn’t refund shipping, White Glove or recycling fees. Outside the US, Nectar has a separate UK range, and neither sells in Australia. See our UK and Canada guides for local picks.

Owner trust: Helix wins clearly

This is the least ambiguous result on the page. Helix holds 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 243 reviews, with 85% at four or five stars. Nectar holds 1.4 from 262 reviews, with 82% at one star. GoodBed gives Nectar a kinder 3.8 out of 5 from 2,884 ratings, but no independent platform puts Nectar anywhere near Helix.

14% positive4% neutral82% negativeTrustpilot, n=262 (brand-level)

GoodBed 3.8/5 (76/100, n=2,884)

The complaint themes differ in an important way. Helix’s complaints are mostly about logistics: delivery delays with little notice, hard-to-reach phone support, and third-party delivery problems such as damaged boxes. Product complaints are scarce, and the main one is that a bed felt firmer than expected. Nectar’s complaints are about the product and the warranty: dips within one to two years, and Forever-warranty claims that stall unless the dip passes 1.5″. A slow delivery is annoying once. A sagging mattress is annoying every night.

Positive
“Absolutely fantastic mattress! Never slept better”
— Trustpilot (Aug 2026)
Negative
“They won't help you unless the mattress collapses past their arbitrary limit.”
— Trustpilot

Two caveats. Trustpilot draws unhappy buyers, and Helix’s sample is small. Also, Nectar sells far more mattresses, and its site shows thousands of positive reviews, though those are collected by Nectar. Even so, the gap between 4.4 and 1.4 on the same platform is too large to explain away. Sleep Foundation’s one recurring Helix product warning is a strong off-gassing smell for the first few nights, so unbox it in a ventilated room.

Helix vs Nectar price: what each size really costs

Nectar wins on price in every size. Both brands show inflated anchor prices, but in different ways. Nectar shows a crossed-out “total value” next to a checkout price that rarely moves. Helix shows a list price and runs a 20% sale most of the time; on 27 October 2026 it was 20% off sitewide with code FALLSALE20. Mattress Clarity’s Midnight price table, below, shows list prices without the discount.

Even after a 20% Helix discount, the Classic Hybrid stays cheaper at every size. The twin, at $349 against about $999 list for the Midnight, is the most extreme gap. Nectar’s twin XL and full cost the same, and its king and California king match, as do Helix’s. At the premium tier, the gap is smaller. The Midnight Luxe at about $1,999 for a queen is $350 more than the Nectar Luxe Hybrid. For the Luxe’s edges, support and owner record, we think that is worth paying.

Two practical tips. Don’t pay Helix list; if the checkout doesn’t show a discount, wait for one. Our best time to buy a mattress guide covers the calendar, and Black Friday deals are tracked on our Black Friday mattress sales page. And if you are sizing a room, check our mattress size chart before choosing between a full and a queen.

Choose Helix if… choose Nectar if…

Find the line that sounds most like you.

  • Choose Helix if you sleep on your side. The Midnight Luxe scores 7.1 to 8.9 across all weights; Nectar’s hybrids drop below 6 for light side sleepers.
  • Choose Helix if you have back pain. Zoned lumbar coils and back scores of 7.3 to 7.7 on the Midnight Luxe, plus the Dusk Luxe for sciatica.
  • Choose Helix if you sit on the edge. 9.0 to 9.6 for edge support against 6.3 to 7.4.
  • Choose Helix if you weigh over 230 lb. The Plus and Dawn are built for you; Nectar has no purpose-built equivalent.
  • Choose Helix if customer experience matters. Trustpilot 4.4 against 1.4.
  • Choose Nectar if your budget is under $1,000. The Classic at $699 and Classic Hybrid at $849 undercut every Helix.
  • Choose Nectar if a partner’s movement wakes you. Motion isolation of 8.6 to 8.8.
  • Choose Nectar if you sleep on your stomach and weigh under 230 lb. The Classic Hybrid scores 7.6 and 7.3.
  • Choose Nectar if you love memory foam. Every Helix is a hybrid with a quicker, springier response.

Who should skip both? Heavier back sleepers who want a medium-firm feel will find Nectar too soft and only the Helix Luxe tier adequate; anyone who wants white-glove setup should look at our Saatva review. Shoppers outside the US and Canada can’t buy Helix at all.

Still torn? If you are a side sleeper or have back pain, buy the Helix Midnight Luxe on sale. It is the better mattress on nearly every lab measure, and its owners are happier. If the price is the obstacle, the Nectar Classic Hybrid gets you a good, quiet bed for about half the price and the same full year to change your mind.
